NEXT weekend Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival’s ‘Jubilation’ entry takes part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant in London.

The 100ft long carnival cart has been designed to reflect various regal elements of the monarchy, including the royal crest, crowns, royal carriages and Yeoman of the Guard, with additional links to the Commonwealth.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant on Sunday (June 5) is a celebration of the Queen, who has dedicated her 70-year reign to service.

It has come to be known as the People’s Pageant, by the people and for the people, and it is an honour for everybody associated with Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival to be involved in the prestigious

Here are some facts about ‘Jubilation’:

On Thursday (May 26) the carnivalites building Jubilation welcomed some VIP guests to the shed where the cart is being built.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset Annie Maw, and deputies Lt Col Mike Motum, and Ted Allen, visited for an early preview of the royal themed cart and met some of the people involved with its design and

construction, along with some of the performers on the big day.

After the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant, Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival organisers are planning to display the cart in Bridgwater Town Centre on Sunday, June 12, to enable members of the public to see the spectacular entry close up. More details will be released nearer the time.

And spectators at Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival on Saturday, November 5 and the other six Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnivals (Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea, Weston Super Mare, North Petherton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury) will also have the chance to see the cart in its full glory.

Bridgwater-based Griffens Carnival Club will be taking the cart out on the road during the November illuminated carnivals and will be providing the cast and road crew.
